My name is Kat, and I am a 24 year old artist. I have been creative person my whole life, and this is where I am able to share what I've made over the years. Painting, sculpting, ceramics, and special effects makeup are just a few of the things I love to do, always trying out new things along the way. I hope you enjoy!
When I was young, it didn't take long for me to see the artistic and inspiring qualities that my family has. My earliest memories come from my grandmother, who was most famous for her beautiful, hand stitched quilts. Every time we would visit as a kid, I would spend hours sitting at the desk in her crafting room, using anything I could find to make something with. She was always so supportive and inspiring, and I am so grateful for her place in my life. In school, my favorite class was always art. I took drawing classes, digital design, photography... but I always had a special interest in ceramics. I got to try using the throwing wheel, and also hand building. That was when I first discovered my love for sculpting. It was hands on, messy, and you could create literally anything you could possibly think of. My favorite piece I made was a mug with a grumpy face, and I thought about that when I was applying to film school two years later. I promise its related! I also had an interest in special effects makeup, and I ended up getting into the makeup program at Vancouver Film School in British Columbia. I spent a year learning how to apply beauty makeups and runway looks, and then into the workshop! I found my passion sculpting hyper-realistic facial prosthetics, as well as large scale creature prosthetics and masks. I had so much fun learning about the casting and molding process, the painting and detail work, and how to bring a work of art to life on a living canvas. It was truly an incredible experience, and I hope to do more of that work going forwards! In the meantime, I am finding new ways to explore the art of sculpting, whether that's makeup, ceramics, or any other projects in the meantime. Some of my other hobbies include textile art, ink on glass painting, crochet, and cake decorating. Now if I could only finish one project before starting the next...
